Bison meets many of the higher standards that consumers are looking for in nourishing food these days. One 3-ounce serving provides 25 grams of protein in just 150 calories.

Its superior protein levels, matched with a lower amount of fat, make bison an excellent source of nutrition for anyone, but especially those looking to lose weight, pregnant women and picky eaters, as smaller portions deliver higher amounts of essential ingredients.

Bison is an excellent source of:
  • iron - 3.42 mg per 100 g serving
  • high percentages of essential fatty acids (in particular omega 6 and omega 3)
  • vitamin B12, B6
  • vitamin E
  • riboflavin, niacin, folate and pantothenic acid.
  • conjugated linoleic acid(CLA)
  • selenium, recognized as an anti-carcinogenic agent
Because of the low fat content of bison, it cooks quickly, leaving less chance of carcinogens being transferred to the meat during grilling.

In addition, bison’s low fat content, 2.2 g per serving, makes it a good choice for those suffering from:

Bison tends to have a slightly lower fat content compared to buffalo. Water buffalo meat can have slightly higher fat content, ranging from 3-5 grams per 100 grams.
